The Sustainable Business COP (SB COP) is a permanent global business platform, created during COP30 to organise and strengthen private-sector participation in international climate processes.

Recognised as a UNFCCC Global Climate Action initiative , within the framework of the Marrakech Partnership , SB COP connects business organisations to the Action Agenda and the mechanisms for implementing the Paris Agreement. Its work ensures continuity across COP cycles and keeps the private sector mobilised beyond individual conferences or commitments.

The platform already brings together business organisations from 68 countries , with the goal of reaching 100 countries by COP31 . This global presence expands the geographical and sectoral diversity of contributions, facilitates cooperation across markets and strengthens an implementation-oriented business voice.

SB COP serves as a structured channel between the private sector, COP Presidencies, governments and climate agenda partners. Through this coordination, it builds business consensus, presents recommendations, mobilises leaders and connects capital, technology and delivery capacity to international priorities

Mission

To organise the private sector’s contribution to the global climate agenda by building consensus and transforming shared priorities into concrete, scalable and economically viable solutions.
 

Objective

To consolidate a permanent business engagement mechanism that mobilises companies, investors and business organisations, tracks the evolution of climate commitments and strengthens the private sector’s implementation capacity within the UNFCCC Action Agenda framework.

SB COP Priorities

In 2025, SB COP structured eight Working Groups to develop recommendations, initiatives and commitments presented in the context of COP30. This first cycle brought together business leaders and experts from different sectors and established the foundations for permanent global action.

In 2026, SB COP began organising all its priorities around the six axes of the Action Agenda. This structure follows the five-year horizon defined within the framework of the UNFCCC Marrakech Partnership, ensures continuity across COP Presidencies and focuses business action on the priority areas for implementing the Paris Agreement.

SB COP has six Working Groups, each corresponding to one axis of the Action Agenda:
 

  1. Transitioning Energy, Industry and Transport
  2. Stewarding Forests, Oceans and Biodiversity
  3. Transforming Agriculture and Food Systems
  4. Building Resilience for Cities, Infrastructure and Water
  5. Fostering Human and Social Development
  6. Unleashing Enablers and Accelerators, including Finance, Technology and Capacity Building
     

The six axes serve as SB COP’s permanent architecture. All thematic priorities across different COP cycles are organised within this structure, allowing new challenges to be incorporated without losing institutional continuity or strategic coherence.

The Working Groups identify the main barriers to implementation, formulate business recommendations and support the Plans to Accelerate Solutions (PASs), the official plans of the Action Agenda. They also mobilise leaders, investment, technologies and commitments capable of accelerating solutions across different sectors of the economy.

The work of the groups connects three complementary dimensions. The first is the development of positions and recommendations for governments and COP Presidencies. The second is the identification and scaling of proven business solutions. The third is the organisation of global campaigns that promote regulatory change, remove market barriers and mobilise capital.

In this way, SB COP transforms business participation into a continuous implementation agenda. Its international network combines local knowledge, global scale and delivery capacity to support the transition towards a more competitive, inclusive, resilient and low-carbon economy.

About SB COP

The initiative is fully aligned with the governance of COP 30 and seeks to strengthen the dialogue between companies and governments to influence public and regulatory policies, based on business proposals for incentives for decarbonization and sustainable innovation, ensure the representativeness of the private sector in the climate agenda, considering the generation of insights and recommendations for Brazil's position at the COP, as well as create a structured public-private collaboration channel, ensuring that the business sector is a strategic partner in the implementation of the country's climate commitments.

SB COP Priorities
